A Real Life Story From Soul Tattoo

This real life story was submitted from DJ Phunk who was running 'Bounce' at the Soul Tattoo every Friday Night from September 2000 to April 2001. You can catch him at Shadow Lounge nowadays.

One night at the good old Soul Tattoo, the police were following a stolen vehicle, and followed this vehicle to the Soul. Instead of pulling the vehicle over or stopping the suspects when they parked the vehicle, they allowed the suspects to enter the club under their not so watchful eye.

The police then proceeded to shut down my event to search for the suspects, not sure why they didn't stop them before coming in to the club, but anyway, about 120 people were being detained without being told why! At this time, the officers began, to let people out one at a time so that they could run everyone's name through their computer. This unfortunately landed some innocent partygoers in the clink due to unpaid C-Train tickets, I would like to apologize to those people. So about an hour goes by the police are starting to find who they are looking for, and finally about half an hour later they were done and told me that I could continue on, but there was one problem, the police sent all of the people, who were my customers home, which cost me a lot of money!

When I expressed my opinion about seeking compensation for lost revenue the Staff Sgt. told me that it wouldn't be worth it, and that it would be a long and costly battle, I think that they call that the "squeeze"!

The City of Calgary Police were unjust in approaching the situation the way they did, I strongly believe that they used the stole vehicle, as a tool to close down the party, it had nothing to do with us!

What do you think?
Phunk!
